Alan Ho, the Executive Director of Hotel Lisboa Macau as well as the nephew of Macau’s “King of Gambling”, Stanley Ho, was arrested on suspicion of managing a prostitution ring this past Saturday and was taken to Macau’s procuratorate at 10 a.m. this morning.
China News reports that Macau police arrested 102 suspects, including six suspected ringleaders and 96 suspected prostitutes. The alleged ringleaders, including 68-year-old Alan Ho along with three other men and two women, were sent to the procuratorate in a private car, while the 96 alleged sex workers, 95 from mainland China and one from Vietnam, were shipped there on trucks.
A bulk of evidence, including unused condoms, were sent to the procuratorate as well. Whether Ho will be charged or not depends on suspects’ testimonies and verification of the evidence.
It’s believed that the ring ran for over one year, earning over 400 million yuan total. This is the biggest prostitution ring bust made by Macao cops since its establishment as Macao Special Administrative Region.
Alan Ho, or He Youlun, studied Business and Management in the US back in 1971. He’d taught at the Chinese University of Hong Kong from 1979 to 1985 and after graduating from Harvard Law School, worked as a lawyer until 1991. He soon after joined STDM, Sociedade de Turismo e Diversões de Macau.
