Police recently broke up a criminal gang that distributed pork from diseased pigs across Hunan, Guangxi, Henan and 11 other provinces. More than 110 people suspected of selling the pig products have been arrested after a year-long investigation carried out by police.
Cops seized more than 1,000 metric tons of tainted pork and 48 metric tons of swill oil (cringe) valued at more than 100 million yuan during a raid on 30 underground workshops, the Ministry of Public Security said in a statement released yesterday.
The ministry added that the producers bribed government livestock insurance agents to obtain the pig meat, and that many of these agents are being prosecuted as well.
