A Shandong couple—the mother and father of newly-born quintuplets, consisting of four girls and one boy—is waiting anxiously while their children fight for survival in intensive care, reports NetEase.
Born on friday last week, the babies were considerably underweight, ranging from only 0.5Kg to 1.135Kg. Unfortunately, the smallest of the girls has already died, but the family still holds out hope for survival of the remaining four babies.
The father, who had no more than a fleeting glance of his children, talked to reporters about the birth, “as soon as the children were born they were rushed to the neonatal intensive care unit,” he said.
Since the birth, the babies have been kept in incubation chambers at Heze Municipal Hospital.
Jiang Wen, who is the director of one of the maternity wards at the hospital, said that this was the first time she had seen a quintuplet birth in her 23-year career.
