Police have detained one suspect after a bus fire injured passengers in Fujian province this morning.
Six passengers were hurt while trying to escape the No. 656 bus, which caught fire as it was running around 8:00 a.m. today in Xiamen, Sina News reports. One of the passengers suffered from burns.
It’s unclear how many passengers were on the bus and how the fire started. The case is still being investigated.
Update [2:15 p.m.]: According to Xinhua, the suspected arsonist is a 53-year-old male surnamed Cai who was suspected of starting a fire at a food company earlier today, before the bus fire. He’d been dismissed from the company on Wednesday.
Cases of bus arson were widely reported in 2014. In July, one man set fire to a bus in Changsha, Hunan province because he ‘wanted to get free meals in jail‘. Just days before, a man set a bus on fire using a container of flammable liquid in Hangzhou.
