China’s two-time Grand Slam champion Li Na has a bun in the oven! The retired tennis star announced the news during an on-court ceremony at the Rod Laver Arena on Monday, marking her first return to Melbourne Park since she scooped up the championship trophy last year and jokingly reminded her husband Jiang Shan, who also goes by Dennis, that he is “so lucky” to have her.
“I’m not sure I can trust everyone or not,” she told the crowd during the ceremony, according to the Associated Press. “Me and Dennis, we are so excited our first child will be out in the summer. Dennis is doing good job — he just makes one ace.”
Li later posted a message on Facebook explaining why she chose to share the news for the first time publicly at Rod Laver Arena:
[…]I wanted to share a very special secret with the Australian Open fans. Over the years, they have supported me and truly helped my success, so it felt just right to let them in on a little secret I’ve been holding on to for a few months now.
This summer, Dennis and I are expecting our first child. We are overjoyed! And it really feels like this baby is going to enter the world already having about 15,000 friends.
