A brave six-year-old boy rushed into a smoking building to save his grandfather from a fire at his home in Heilongjiang province last week.
The child, called Haiwen, was returning from school when he saw his home up in flames, Tomo News reports. Immediately, he rushed inside and maneuvered through the blaze to find his grandpa, collapsed on the ground and suffering from burns. His grandfather told the boy to go find help.
A group of rescuers went inside to help Haiwen’s grandfather, who’d already managed to drag himself halfway to safety, and pulled him out of building. Tragically, however, he died shortly after being rescued.
Haiwen suffered third-degree burns over 25 percent of his body in his attempt to save his grandfather’s life. His parents say they haven’t told him about his grandfather yet, as they want to keep him in good spirits while he heals.
