A woman jumped from the third-story window with her 20-day-old son to escape a fire at her home in Shanghai’s Qingpu district yesterday.
Around 10:00 a.m., a cleaner surnamed Zhou saw flames emerging from the second floor window of a three-story villa in the Oriental Pearl Garden Community as she was cleaning outside. She heard a loud noise and looked up to see the window on the second floor had completely shattered due to the intense fire.
As she shouted to guards to call for help, the mother on the third floor, surnamed Tian, was seen wrapping up her baby in a quilt before she leaped out of the window with him, according to Xinmin.cn. She was reportedly unable to escape down the stairs and had no other option.
Tian and her baby were taken to a hospital, where the infant was found to be unharmed. Tian injured her foot in the leap.
The cause of the fire is unknown, according to police.
