A two-and-a-half-year-old boy became a hero in the Xinzhou district of Wuhan, Hubei province when he ran 400 meters to seek help for his friend, who’d fallen into a pond on January 17.
The boy’s grandma, surnamed Li, said that her grandson a his two-year-old friend were playing outside as she was cleaning in the house. Around 3:00 p.m., the boy ran into the house breathless, shouting that his friend had fallen into the water, according to the Wuhan Evening News.
She followed the boy to a village pond and found the girl in the water just barely struggling. Because her winter clothes were so thick, she hadn’t been fully submerged. The girl had floated some two or three meters from the shore, and because Li wasn’t able to swim, she grabbed a long bamboo pole and used it to pull the girl in to safety.
The young girl had choked on a mouthful of water and fell unconscious after she was dragged out, but was resuscitated by Li and taken to the Xinzhou District People’s Hospital, where, as of January 19, she was still staying but in fine condition.
