A man wearing a watermelon on his head like a mask has been spotted lurking Beijing Metro lines 1, 2 and 5. People on internet have begun referring to him as “watermelon brother” and describing their creepy encounters with him, Beijing Morning Post reports. We honestly never thought a watermelon could look so frightening.
“It was so scary last night when I was on the metro. This guy was just hanging around on the train wearing a watermelon mask, with a beer bottle and a baijiu bottle in his two hands!! Apparently he was totally drunk,” a passenger surnamed Wu told a Beijing Morning Post reporter.

“I was scared by this watermelon brother too,” another passenger said. “I posted some pictures of him on Weibo, then I [tagged] the Beijing Metro Police, reporting this guy’s ‘strange’ behavior.”
After confirming with a couple of witnesses, Beijing Metro staff reported the watermelon-masked man to police. Soon after, officers tracked him down and took him aside for questioning.
It’s unclear whether it was watermelon brother’s intention to frighten passengers, what with those whimsical star-shaped eyes and that little curlicue stem, but if he was attempting to find some 15 minutes of fame online (or promote the pamphlet [?] he’s holding), he certainly succeeded.
