How many firefighters does it take to save a cat from a mousetrap? In Changzhou city, Jiangsu province, it takes five.
Yes, five firemen are apparently required in the urgent situation in which a cat gets his wee wittle paw stuck inside a mousetrap. Armed with pliers, they drove 10 kilometers each way to help the animal, according to Sina News, which seems a tad excessive considering the person who reported it probably could’ve managed to break the wires of the trap him- or herself.
The story has received nationwide media coverage (there is a somewhat lengthy editorial about the whole ordeal published on news portal Beijing News), with the majority of commenters either applauding the fire squad for respecting life and serving peoples’ needs or arguing that the trip was a waste of public resources because firefighters should be protecting and serving, well, people.
We just hope someone gets that cat off the dangerous streets of Changzhou for good.
