Chinese state-owned network CCTV was ridiculed by Eurosport, a European TV broadcaster, for its rather dated method of using a whiteboard and stickers to analyze China’s AFC Asian Cup defeat to Australia.
After Australia secured a 2-0 win over China in the quarter-finals at Brisbane’s Lang Park last week, CCTV sportscasters unintentionally came off as just slightly more pitiable when they recapped the loss using a dry erase board and stickers.
Eurosport responded that “The scene is in complete contrast to Sky Sports’ Monday Night football, where the likes of Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville provide in-depth comment through the use of large touch screens and gadgets.”
“It does seem strange that a country which produces millions of iPads and iPhones every single year remain reluctant about implementing it on their own TV show,” the article added.
Chinese media didn’t seem to take the British news report too hard, however, commenting simply that perhaps their method of sport commentary is “a bit behind in [Eurosports’] perspective”.
