Gong Xingfang, 56, is the leading nanny of a housekeeping company in Hongkou, Shanghai. She has been working in this business for more than a decade, and brings in around 14,000 yuan every month. Lucrative salaries like Gong’s is becoming more commonplace for domestic helpers in the city as the demand for more qualified workers has gone up, NetEase reports.
“If any customers want to hire me, I am afraid they have to book in advance, probably six months earlier”, she told reporters.
According to a related source, the average salary of a nanny in Shanghai last year was 9,405 RMB per month, higher than that of what a typical graduate can earn.
Last year we reported that the average salaries of an experienced ayi in the city had gone up sixfold in the past decade, and that those who specialize in caring for newborn babies could make around 7,000 to 10,000 yuan per month.
