A 23-year-old man was so desperate for some money after his parents stopped offering him financial help that he tried asking employees at a bank in Chongqing if they could lend him some cash.
The bank, located in Chongqing’s in Sanxia Plaza, reported the case to police after the man was seen loitering around the area on January 22, sad-eyed and defeated, NetEase News reports.
Chen Dong, from Hubei province, had come to Chongqing after getting into a fight with his family, he said.
“I asked my parents to send me some money, but there was no balance on my debit card when I checked the ATM,” Chen said. “I started wandering in front of the bank. Then when I mustered up some courage, I approached one of the bank employees inside, asking him if he could lend me some money for dinner.”
“He doesn’t look like a beggar because his clothes are pretty neat”, Xiao Yang, one of the managers of the bank said. “Since no one was gonna give him any money, he walked out. I could see he looked pretty down. I guessed he might be in some sort of trouble, so I called our local police officer Huang Hai for help.”
“My parents stopped supporting me because I didn’t take their advice. They even cut off my allowance, so I had to came here for work,” Chen said to the police. He then asked the officer if he could help him get some dinner.
Officer Huang called Chen’s mother, who couldn’t even be bothered to take the phone call. Instead, Chen’s older brother spoke with the police.
“Chen Dong graduated from a higher vocational college three years ago but was doing nothing at home. He got financial support from our parents instead of getting himself a job,” Chen’s brother said. “We just wanna leave him out in society. A grown man with a healthy body should learn to earn his own living expenses”.
Jiang Hua, a specialist at the Xiehe Marriage and Family Guidance Center in Chongqing explained in the report that his behavior is largely a result of him being spoiled as a child.
“To suddenly stop ‘feeding’ him is an immature solution for his parents,” Jiang said. “Forcing their kid to live independently without communicating with him and getting to know his own thoughts cannot solve the actual problem here.”
Well, at least he didn’t try to sue them.
