Three passengers managed to escape from an Audi Q7 by crawling out of its window before the car was completely swallowed up by an ice hole in Changchun, Jilin province on February 1.
The passengers were attending the opening ceremony of the Shaman Winter Fishing Festival when the car went down, according to NetEase News.
According to witnesses at the scene, the car had approached too quickly and came to a screeching halt before drifting out into the frozen (but apparently not that frozen) reservoir. The vehicle then began to sink into the depths of the water as a man, woman and child climbed to safety through the window.
The Audi was reportedly completely submerged within a matter of five minutes. Intrepid photographers, of course, rushed to the scene and documented the entire process.
It’s said that the only thing visible from the surface now is the car’s back license plate. Godspeed, sweet Audi.
