A man in Hangzhou was recently spotted kneeling outside of his apartment building for hours, allegedly because he hadn’t handed his salary over to the missus in a timely manner. Apparently, this is a pretty standard punishment for the poor fellow.
The man, surnamed Wang, was kneeling on a computer keyboard in front of his apartment, Xinhua News reports, citing local residents. He held on to a whiteboard reading: “Sorry sweetheart, I was so wrong. From now on, I will hand in all my wages”.
“I met my wife in 2011. We started dating in Hangzhou, then got married here as well,” Wang told curious reporters. “Although we may have some quarrels from time to time, our relationship is still not bad.”
Wang did have one complaint, however. “She is always trying to control me…” he said, adding that “kneeling on the keyboard is actually a regular punishment for me.” (We haven’t tried kneeling on a keyboard, but we imagine it would be somewhat uncomfortable.)
After their wedding, Wang’s wife asked that he give her his salary at the end of every month so that she could manage the family’s finances. He’d dutifully obeyed, up until last December. Wang had no money to hand over to his beloved because he’d spent too much on his “daily expenses,” which she was not happy about. After two months, she decided to drive him out of the house.
“If she doesn’t let me come home, I’ll keep kneeling here, yelling: ‘I’m sorry, honey,'” he told a reporter, adding that he’d apologize “a thousand times to show my loyalty”.
While it’s becoming more typical for women to manage household finances, some men establish their own xiao jin ku (private money or private bank account) on the side. Apparently for Mrs. Wang, a stunt like that just isn’t gonna fly.
