Police in Shanghai found over 5,000 yuan in cash stashed in the bag of a young beggar as she was caught trying to slip past the security gates without paying a ticket fare at Metro Line 3’s Shilong Road Station.
Shanghai Daily reports:
The woman, in her 20s, entered the station without a ticket on January 25 when she was stopped by Metro staff and asked to pay 84 yuan fine for evading fare.
During the procedure, Metro police found a black bag that she hung on to very tightly drawing suspicion.
They ordered the woman to open the bag, and found 5,000 yuan cash in notes and coins.
The woman confessed that she had been begging along lines 3 and 4 with her mother.
Apparently, this haul was the young lady’s earning from just the past few days.
Web users have been venting frustration over recent stories of beggars who bring in so much cash, they’re able to buy an iPhone 6. Last year, a man on the Shanghai Metro pummeled an old beggar, complaining that he earned less at his job than a beggar makes in a single day.
