Song Furu is the party secretary of Dongjie village in Yongnian county, Hebei province. For the past six years, he’s purchased goodies for all 2,880 residents in his village for the Lunar New Year holiday using his own money. This year, he spent 2.2 million RMB, NetEase reports.
According to a related source, Song typically gives out 12 gifts per person, including 1kg of fish, 1 home-fed chicken, 1kg of pork, a bottle of peanut oil, 10kg of rice, 0.5kg of sesame oil, 10kg of flour, 5kg of dumpling flour, 0.5kg of sugar, 0.5kg of seeds, 1kg of peanuts and 0.75kg of vermicelli.
Aside from the kitchen supplies, elderly people in the village are given the gift of cold, hard cash. The standard is 1,200 RMB for villagers aged 60 to 69, 1,800 RMB for villagers aged 70 to 79, 2,400 RMB for villagers aged 80 to 89 and 3,000 RMB for those who are above 90 years old.
Needless to say, Song Furu is a popular guy in this village.
