Chinese authorities seized 7,600 rolls of toilet paper with Hong Kong Chief Executive CY Leung’s face printed across it.
The toilet paper was confiscated by mainland authorities at an unidentified factory in Shenzhen on Friday morning. The Hong Kong Democratic party intended to sell the rolls at a Chinese New Year fair opening this week to raise funds for their cause, but alas, it was not to be. Around 20,000 packets of novelty tissues were taken as well, totaling about 12,900 USD in lost goods all together.
“I think the Chinese government just wants to suppress all different opinions,” the party’s chief Lam Cheuk Ting told AFP.
“Our products are just some kind of joke, which presents no harm to so-called national security,” Lam said. “It is a violation of freedom of expression”.
