A 29-year-old man from Liaoning province turned down a scholarship to attend business school in the US so that he could start a sheep-farming business in Anhui, where he now makes upward 50 million RMB per year.
After graduating from college, Lu Yanzhe chose not to get his Master’s degree abroad and instead to get into sheep farming. Thanks to the rarity and demand of his sheep, Lu’s business attracted attention from the high-end lamb market. His company’s sales now exceed 50 million yuan per year, according to NetEase.
Lu was reportedly a business student at one of China’s most elite universities and was once offered a full-ride scholarship to a business school in US (the name of which wasn’t specified).
As of February this year, Lu’s Tiangxingjian Agricultural Development Corporation has provided the most Wugu sheep worldwide, with his sheep occupying 75 percent of the market.
Lu works with his two partners.
The local city government is now offering Lu help financially.
Lu said that family is what he cares about most, especially as he’s working far from home.
