The world’s first twin spotted seals were born at the Dalian’s Sun Asia Ocean World in Liaoning Province. It has also been documented as the first time that twin spotted seals have been successfully reproduced in captivity. D’aww.
Spotted seals, which live mainly in the Liaodong Bay of Bohai Gulf, are key protected animals in China, and the number of wild spotted seals is currently decreasing. Dalian Sun Asia Ocean World has been breeding these seals since 2008 and has successfully bred nearly 40 seals in captivity.
At 1:40 a.m. on March 4, the first seal pup was born and more than an hour later the second one was born. The twins are in good condition and were identified as two male pups, weighing respectively 8.8 and 8.2 kg.
