A two-month-old baby girl was abandoned at an ATM in the Longdong area of Guangzhou’s Tianhe district on Tuesday evening. After being found in perfect health, the baby was sent to a local welfare center for children.
According to an eyewitness, surnamed Qiu, while entering to transfer money he saw a woman dressed in pink run out from the booth and cross the street, Nandu Daily reports.
“The lady looked like she was in her 20s and around 1.65 meters tall.” Qiu recalled.
Qiu then saw a baby girl wrapped up in a blanket on the ground, accompanied by a small package containing milk powder, baby clothes and other belongings.
“Two residents who came to the ATM earlier told me that the lady asked them to help watch the baby for a while, then she left.” Qiu told reporters.
Feeling that something suspicious was going on, Qiu quickly called the police. Ten minutes later paramedics arrived and confirmed that the infant had a healthy heartbeat.
No information concerning the infant’s identity was found at the scene, but local police have sent the infant to the Longdong Welfare Center for Children. Further investigation is underway.
