At a local village in Shantou City, Guangdong province, villagers mark the thirteenth day of the lunar new year with an enormous firecracker line-up that covers an entire street.
With this local custom, the villagers welcome the village deity to the new year.
The villagers lay out firecrackers across the full length of the street.
As you can see, it’s quite the social occasion.
The firecrackers get lit up on one end of the street…
…and cause a gigantic explosion that blankets the entire area in smoke.
The massive quantity of firecrackers creates an explosion befitting of a Hollywood blockbuster, the perfect way to let your local deity know that the new year has arrived.
