How often does one get to fly sitting inside the cockpit of an airplane? Well that’s what happened to one lucky young woman who was returning home to Hong Kong from Taipei on board a Cathay Pacific flight. She says the captain allowed her to sit in the cockpit because the flight was full.
28-year-old Ada Ng was able to take a video of the flight landing at the airport in Hong Kong as seen from inside the cockpit. She posted the video along with several pictures to her Weibo page remarking how cool it was to experience takeoff and landing inside a cockpit.
One of the pictures posted by Ng was of her air ticket which indicated that she had a jump seat in the business class. Jump seats are used by cabin crew during takeoff and landing and sometimes used by trainee pilots, off-duty crew members commuting between airports. They can also be offered to family members of crew members.
In part because it was unclear whether Ng was a cabin crew and/or a family member, her pictures soon went viral on Weibo and sparked a discussion about airline security as most airlines have made it virtually impossible for passengers to access the cockpit post-9/11.
Ng has since deleted her post but that hasn’t stopped Weibo users to continue circulating the pictures.
In 2011, a minor scandal erupted after photos surfaced showing a Cathay Pacific flight attendant performing oral sex on a pilot in the cockpit. The couple was dismissed from the airline shortly afterwards.
