A third year student at the Hubei Art College tried winning the affection of females on campus with a romantic public serenade in front of a nude self-portrait. As you can probably guess, it didn’t go over so well.
According to students, He Chengyun, majoring in digital media, introduced himself to passersby before whipping out a guitar and playing a melody by the popular Chinese musician Xu Wei. Meanwhile, a semi-nude image of himself stood propped up behind him.
It was not just a one-man operation, either. He’s classmates showed their support by handing out flyers containing ‘basic information’ about He to female students who walked by.
Unfortunately, the plan backfired. Female students started taking longer routes to avoid him, and his “recital” only attracted groups of male students who surrounded him to gawk and take photos.
According to iFeng, a reporter interviewed 25 random female students following He’s performance, 20 of whom showed negative reactions or said they weren’t wooed by the scene. Nonetheless, He’s apparently become an “idol” among students.
As for his artwork? “This naked self-portrait represents my sincerity towards my potential future girlfriend,” he said.
