A 21-year-old student from the China Institute of Metrology in Hangzhou was seen jumping off the fourth floor of a school building at around 3:00 p.m. on March 9, allegedly after being turned down by a woman he’d been pursuing. The man survived the fall, and although he suffered fractures to his limbs, doctors say his life isn’t in danger.
The student, surnamed Zeng, is in his sophomore year of college. This past Monday, onlookers videotaped the man leaping off the fourth-story ledge of a building and the footage spread across social media platforms including WeChat and Weibo. While he could be seen making movements after hitting the ground, it was unclear whether he was going to survive.
According to NetEase, Zeng had tried committing suicide after a failed attempt at declaring his love to a female student.
Another report said that Zeng had previously consulted a psychiatrist on two occasions.
Zeng remains in the hospital under observation, but is now in stable condition.
The further investigation is underway.
