A man and woman were found dead in a car in the Songhua River in Jilin city, Jilin province on March 11 and remained in a position of embrace even after being pulled out of the water.
The white car was spotted in the partially frozen river by local residents, who recognized it as belonging to a resident in the nearby Chaliba Village.
The car owner’s father was called to the scene and the victims were identified as a man surnamed Zhang and his girlfriend. The couple were found holding each other inside the car, and remained in that position with their arms stretched out even after being separated on the bank.
The only way for vehicles to cross the river is to take a ferry boat, according to Sina News, and it’s believed that Zhang’s car slid into the river from the slope at the loading dock. Police are still investigating the case.
