Saturday Adoption Day @ Happy Pets

Barcamp @ NYU Shanghai
A response to formal, exclusive and boring tech conferences, Barcamp is a fun, user-generated “un-conference” that started in Silicon Valley. Expect a full-day event with multiple sessions, workshops, and presentations on topics like technology, design, entrepreneurship, and social innovation. It is an open and sharing environment — everyone can attend, and everyone can participate. Previous Barcamps have featured talks from hundreds of interesting Shanghai techies! Special guests for this year’s Barcamp are Ryan Szrama, the inventor of Uber-cart and Drupal Commerce, Clay Shirky, who will discuss collaborative technologies, and Britta Riley, who founded WindowFarms (a Brooklyn-based urban gardening system). As one of the most distinguished Chinese conductors with an established international reputation, Maestro Long Yu is currently Music Director of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra (among others). RAM Sound: Deconstruction/reconstruction vs. Mark Bradford’s Tears of a Tree @ Rockbund Art Museum
The experimentalist Sweed Mikko Savela gives a musical reply to the western representation of Bradford’s exhibition at the Rockbund Art Museum. Mikko Savela will perfom two sets of music, one with guitar and electronics, and one with the traditional chinese instrument Guzheng, to give a reply to the western representation of east by Mark Bradford’s practice in the current show. Currently living in Shanghai, Savela uses experimental techniques to play traditional Eastern instruments with modern methods and vice versa. The celebrated Los Angeles-based artist Mark Bradford’s exhibition Tears of a Tree is running until May 3. Read more here.
