Both passengers on board were killed when a light trainer aircraft crashed into a lagoon in Pingtung county, Taiwan.
The S-6 PA 2002 trainer light aircraft plunged into the water near Dapeng Bay at around 10:40 a.m. yesterday, Xinhua reported. Rescuers arrived at the scene nearly 10 minutes after the crash and pulled two bodies from the water.
The passengers on board were identified as 50-year-old pilot Ko Ming-siu and a 30-year-old trainee surnamed Yang.
The US-manufactured aircraft, registered in Taiwan in 2007, is used for training and tourism purposes.
The Civil Aeronautics Administration and the Aviation Safety Council confirmed that Ke had maintained a license to operate such an aircraft and that it wouldn’t expire until August 21 next year, the Taipei Times said. He was also qualified to train students and administer flying tests.
