A worker reportedly stabbed a head nurse at a hospital in Shanghai’s Hongkou District yesterday. According to Shanghai Daily, the incident occurred after a bickering argument got out of hand between the two employees.
The nurse is being treated for wounds to the chest but is in a stable condition.
The offending worker at the hospital of the People’s Liberation Army in Hongkou has been taken into custody.
The case follows a string of attacks on hospital staff in recent months, including an incident last May in which three other doctors at a Shanghai hospital were slashed by a knife-wielding patient. As a result of rising tensions between medical staff and patients over the past couple of years, Shanghai’s Huashan Hospital invited instructors to train its staff in self-defense, and the Zhongshan Hospital in Shanghai followed suit.
