On Friday, one high school in Guangxi Province decided that the best way to impress county leaders on their inspection tour of the school would be to have the entire student body perform their afternoon exercises outside—in the rain—while the inspectors watched—under umbrellas.
After photos from Friday’s exercise session were posted online, some netizens criticized school administrators for their cruelty. The next day, the school in Rong County defended their decision and magnanimity by reasoning that the aged county leaders were just too old; their bodies couldn’t stand up to the punishment of the wind and rain that the students could withstand.
The Rong County propaganda department added that the umbrellas were there mostly to shield filming equipment (can’t wait to see that footage!).
NetEase reports that the students were made to exercise in the rain for 30 minutes. Obviously, some inspectors had trouble holding up an umbrella for so long.
Last year, we saw that even when the PLA is forcing first year university students to perform military exercises in the rain, they equip them with standard issue umbrellas.
