An underground prostitution ring in Macau has been busted by police in Macau, according to posts on Weibo.
Police arrested 34 men and 8 women complicit in the illegal sex trade, including the alleged mastermind who is originally from Chongqing. Police say the ring operated via a mobile phone social media application, which clients used to choose from the three women for an appointment at a Cotai strip hotel. Police released images of seized items, including cash, condoms and a diary detailing a number of appointments.
This is not the first time a social media application has been utilised to arrange a rendezvous with a prostitute, with 75 mainland women arrested for using popular mobile app WeChat to solicit sex. Nor is it the first prostitution scandal to hit Macau this year—the nephew of a prominent casino owner was arrested in January for suspected management of an illicit prostitution ring.
