While most people’s party tricks get about as dangerous as swallowing a whole raw pepper, this 24-year-old man in Mianzhu city, Sichuan province manages to defy what could likely result in gruesome injury with his daring street performances.
Zhao Rui is a martial arts trainer and local celebrity whose kung fu shows on the streets of Fuxin county have recently made headlines.
Zhao shows off his stunts.
Zhao’s stunts lean towards the impossible. He’s able to walk away completely unharmed after lying on sharp spades, bending long scraps of metal with only his neck and even taking an electric drill to his head.
In one of Zhao’s most baffling stunts, he holds a fast-spinning electric drill to his head for around ten seconds, pulling it away to reveal only a red spot on his skin.
Zhao began learning kung fu at the Shaolin Temple in Henan province in 2009, focusing on free combat and intense qigong training.
“It takes quite a long time to master these skills. I started to practice these stunts in 2013,” said Zhao. He said he’s practiced qigong for five years.
“I’m afraid that he’ll hurt himself while practicing,” Zhao’s mother told reporters. ” He often practices the skills secretly. But I’m happy that he has achieved so much in what he loves to do.”
Zhao told reporters that practicing kung fu improves his health and self-confidence. He did hurt himself once during his drill stunt, however, and has stressed that young people should never attempt to imitate his performances.
