If your ex and current girlfriend were both drowning, who would you save? This was the bizarre dilemma a 20-year-old male in Ningbo, Zhejiang faced on March 18 when both his former and new girlfriend jumped into a river to test his love.
According to an officer surnamed Wang from the Zhenhai Fire Prevention Guards, the boyfriend, surnamed Wu, plunged into Yong River immediately after both women jumped in and saved his present girlfriend before abandoning the ex at the scene, Modern Financial News reports.
The three, all from Sichuan Province, had met up in an attempt sort out a love triangle situation. Apparently Wu had broken up with the ex some four months ago, but she continued to “harass” him and his new fling.
At around 3:00 a.m., an argument broke out between them, which drove the furious former lover to jump into the river–an attempt to ‘show her seriousness’ over the issue. Wu’s new girlfriend promptly followed the action to see who Wu would save in a twisted love contest of sorts.
This only encouraged the ex girlfriend to walk further into the river out of fury. Unfortunately, she found herself deserted and completely stuck in mud. At last she had to call a friend for help.
At 3:31 a.m. police were called and within a few minutes, a team of firefighters arrived and helped the girl, who was submerged in mud up to her chest.
While the rescue operation was in progress, the argument carried on between the ex and the lovebirds, who had returned to the shore after receiving several warning calls from the deserted girl’s friend.
“We have been broken up for four months, why are you still harassing me?” Wu asked his ex, who had been successfully taken back to the river bank.
“Because I want to,” she replied.
Strangely enough, this isn’t the first situation of its kind. Last November in Chongqing, a woman drowned when she’d jumped into a river after her boyfriend, who had moments before that jumped in the water to save his ex-girlfriend.
