A 76-year-old man from Harbin made headlines this week after he and his wife’s carefree travelling lifestyle came to the attention of Chinese netizens.
According to Tencent News, Han Shigui used to work for an electric power company. In 2003 he used his savings to buy a caravan and take his wife travelling around China.
“We’ve visited more than 50 cities and lived there temporarily. We especially like to visit places that are said to promote longevity, such as Bama country in Guangxi and Hainan province,” said Han. “Hainan is my favorite. We go there once a year.”
The vehicle is 11 meters long and 3.5 meters wide. It has eight beds, a kitchen, washing room, sitting room, dinning table and a sofa. “It’s our home. Once we get started, everything we own goes with us,” Han’s wife told reporters.
Han said he and his wife plan to spend at least a year in Luoyi village, known in Hainan as the “ancient village.” They have been given a plot of land on which they can grow vegetables.
Since coming to mainstream attention, Han’s story has attracted a lot of attention online, with many envious netizens taking time to leave comments.
“I really admire his life,” one said. Another commented, “I’d like to wish the couple good health and happiness. Also, please drive carefully. Safety comes first!” One glowing commentator said “He’s such an awesome guy that he can afford for a car and can take his wife on the trips.”
