Three children were killed and another injured in Huizhou, Guangdong province after they climbed into a cement mixer to play and the machine somehow got switched on.
The kids, all aged between four and eight, were playing at a workshop on Sunday afternoon when the horrific incident occurred. Three of them were siblings and their parents own the workshop, according to Southern Metropolis Daily. The parents continually told their kids to stay away from the building, as they played there often.
Neighbors were alerted when they heard screams coming from the workshop shed, and rushed to the scene to find one boy who’d been thrown out of the cement mixer. They immediately unplugged the power cable to turn off the machine, but it was already too late.
Two of the kids were pronounced dead at the scene and another died at the hospital.
Apparently, the machine can only be powered on after two switches are activated—one located on the mixer, and a “master” switch installed on the shed wall. Investigators are now questioning why the master switch, which is out of the kids’ reach, was left on.
