Yesterday in Xuzhou City, hundreds of chengguan—China’s most unpopular public officials—suited up in their most extravagant riot wear to finally rid the city in force of the evil of street vendors.
Kebab sellers, noodle makers, clothes peddlers, none were spared the wrath of the chengguan’s strict adherence to the law. They even made away with a pretty sweet table.
If you think this might be a tad excessive than you obviously aren’t following the escalating war between chengguan and street vendors in China. In Guangxi, chengguan have resorted to installing traffic bollards to defeat unlawful sellers. Street vendors have responded by becoming ridiculously photogenic.
If only they could each live a day in the other’s shoes. Or at least just try a little tenderness before resorting to carrying riot shields.
Anyway, this raid is going to look rad on some recruitment posters!
