In this latest edition of Chinese villagers/farmers build the craziest things, we have a man from Zhejiang and his model of President Xi Jinping ready to embark on a Journey to the West.
The creator, Zheng Hongkang from the outskirts of Yuyao City, Zhejiang Province, admits that he doesn’t have any education or training in this kind of thing, but ever since he was a kid he has liked painting and molding. In 2013, Xi Jinping’s Chinese Dream inspired him to go out and achieve his own Chinese Dream of creating works of art. This is his little way of giving back to Xi Dada.
As this New York Times article from March 8th emphasizes, Papa Xi has successfully developed a loyalty among the common people that is unrivaled among recent Chinese leadership. While the adoration has yet to lead to animal sacrifices, it has led to one Beijing restaurant moving a whole lot of baozi, an adorable diary entry, and a terrible, terrible song.
