A nursing school student reportedly tossed her newborn boy from the ninth floor of the female students’ dormitory at the Hainan Second Health School in Wuzhishan, Hainan on March 27.
The newborn was discovered by a group of lorry drivers who heard a noise near the dormitory at around 4:00 p.m. that day.
“We didn’t know it was a child, so we didn’t move. But then we heard some girls crying in the building, and when people went over, they saw it was a newborn boy,” one of the drivers, surnamed Wang, said in a Sina News report.
A student at the school who spoke to reporters under terms of anonymity identified the mother of the child as a second-year student surnamed Hao. A school official confirmed the incident yesterday, and said that Hao gave birth to the child at around 3:00 p.m. on March 27 in her dorm room.
The girl’s eight roommates said they’d all been sleeping when Hao gave birth. Neither they nor anybody else knew that Hao was pregnant, and her protruding stomach wasn’t noticeable because she was somewhat overweight.
The child was already dead upon arriving to the hospital. Hao could face criminal charges if it’s proven that the baby was alive when she threw him.
