The crazy things you’ll do for love when you’re young, loaded with cash and fucking terrible at making life decisions. In the case of this tuhao, it means splashing out hundreds of thousands of yuan to publish a four-page apology in one of Beijing’s most popular newspapers.
The ad, which ran in the April 2 issue of the Beijing Youth Daily, featured a full-page image of the man and his girlfriend, followed by three pages of apologetic ramblings written in English.
According to a publicity agent cited in news reports, one “Scott Xu” was attempting to contact his girlfriend after they’d gotten into a fight, and had this printed on the date of their three-month anniversary.
The first page, which may or may not have been formatted in a Microsoft Word template, reads:
Dear Xuan, it’s an ordinary day but meaningful to us somehow. I am sorry I have been hurting you so much which gets back to myself finally.
I just want you to know that how important you have been and how sorry I am still feeling to you. Your love can do so many others can’t, very special and unique.
The next two pages poetically read:
*Drops dead on ground*
It’s speculated that the whole thing is some sort of advertisement stunt, and we kind of hope so. Renting out an ad estimated to cost 500,000 to 600,000 yuan for this despicable display is just a slap in the face of the poor souls reading it on the crowded Beijing subway, scraping the last three kuai from the bottoms of their bags just to buy a transfer ticket home.
