A rich businessman visiting Macao with his wife and child drowned on Tuesday in a freak accident involving a hot tub at the Four Seasons hotel.
According to Phoenix, while Wu Jisheng was relaxing in a hot tub, a malfunction occurred with the pumping system, dramatically increasing the flow rate of water leaving the bottom of the tub. Owning to the powerful suction, Wu’s bottocks became stuck in the outlet, preventing him from raising his head above the water.
His wife and nearby swimmers ran over to try and pull Wu out from the hot tub, but were unable to overcome the force pulling him to the bottom of the water. Only after 20 minutes had elapsed did staff at the hotel shut off power to the pumping system, but by this point Wu had already drowned.
Wu is the largest shareholder in a Shenzhen based technology company which conducts research into bio-metric security and timekeeping systems. The company is reportedly very profitable, and Wu often took his family to Macao on holiday, visiting the Four Seasons hotel on a frequent basis.
