A family of seven tragically drowned in a reservoir in China’s Guangdong Province during the Qingming Festival.
The incident occurred after a 17-year-old teenager accidentally fell into the reservoir while using it to wash her hands, according to Shanghai Daily.
Seven of the teen’s relatives attempted to jump in and rescue her, including her parents, younger sister and younger brother.
Sadly, six of the family members, along with the teenager, drowned.
The bodies were salvaged from the reservoir, located in Chaoyang District, Shantou City, around 4:00 p.m. yesterday.
In a cruelly ironic twist, the incident occurred straight after the family had finished sweeping their relatives’ tombs in celebration of the Tomb Sweeping holiday.
