A total of 14 people were injured in an explosion at a chemical plant in Gulei of Fujian province’s Zhangzhou city yesterday evening. The blast was believed to be caused by a leak in the storage tank.
As of 1:00 a.m. this morning, the fire was still raging on. Among the injured, two were severely wounded, Sohu News reports. The other 12 who suffered minor injuries have been treated in the local hospital.
Hundreds of firefighters and 78 fire engines were dispatched to battle the blaze as soon as the blast rocked the plant.
According to eyewitnesses, a strong tremor could be felt as far as 50 kilometers away from the blast site. A reporter who lived nearby also said that she could feel tremors for around four seconds when the accident happened.
This is the second time the chemical plant has experienced an explosion in the past two years.
Last October, a huge explosion also ripped through a chemical plant in Shandong province, with tremors felt throughout Qingdao city and surrounding areas.
