An e-commerce company in Henan province assembled all its staff for a lavish award ceremony this past Thursday, at which the boss handed out 14.2 million yuan in cash to the highest performing employees.
According to Zhengzhou Evening News, after a stock issue in January, the company’s share price has gone through the roof. In order to reward his most talented employees, the CEO sold a portion of his shares and used the proceeds to bankroll generous bonuses.
When employees entered the room, they were reportedly dumbstruck by the wall of money in front of them, with several commenting that the only time they’d ever seen anywhere near that much money was on television.
Each bundle of money is worth a whopping 100,000 yuan. Several employees had to bring sacks to work in order to carry such a large quantity of cash back home.
One lucky employee, who was evidently on the good side of the boss, took home 3 million yuan as his individual bonus.
Recently minted Chinese employers have been known to splash the cash when rewarding their most senior employees. A few months ago, a 26-year-old girl from Qingdao who founded her own online company gave away four BMWs to her highest performing employees.
