A series of pre-wedding photos taken of a couple of Tibetan origin in their traditional costumes and fashionable western-style outfits have gone viral, with netizens appreciating the blending of both old and new.
According to Xinhua News, the 31-year-old groom named Gerongpengcuo was from Danba county in Sichuan province. His soon-to-be wife, Dawazhuoma, is from a rural family in neighboring Maerkang county.
After graduation from Minzu University of China in 2009, Gerongpengcuo had worked as a broker for entertainment circle in Beijing for four years. After that, he returned to Chengdu and established an advertising company together with his middle school classmate called He Di, who was also their photographer.
“If we didn’t leave our hometown to pursue our dreams, what will our life be?” said He Di, “Gerongpengcuo is lucky that he received higher education and worked in the city. Many of our classmates and friends remain working in our hometown. Their life is just the same as shown in some of the photos. They feed animals, spin wool and process corn.”
Gerongpengcuo returned to his hometown and prepared for his wedding ceremony on April 11.
He told reporters that his wife used to study singing in her hometown and currently, she is running a Taobao store selling hand-made ornaments. Neither of them is a professional model. The photos were actually taken on several occasions.
Gerongpengcuo added that while he was on a business trip to Lhasa, they took pictures against the backdrop of the temples. Earlier this year, they took pictures in Thailand when he was going on a trip there with company staff.
“We are very happy and satisfied in the city, but we also feel a bit lost and uneasy.” Gerongpengcuo captioned his photos, “Seeking the root of culture doesn’t restrict Tibetan youth. Some of the younger generation easily lose themselves and can’t feel the sense of cultural belonging while they are pursuing their dream. We hope we can send out a signal to the young people that on the road to happiness, you don’t need to lose your principals.”
Compared with all of these pre-wedding photos, what do you think of this Tibetan couple’s wedding photos?
