Weary shoppers in China rejoice! The embargo on sleeping in Ikea stores has been lifted, according to China Real Time.
While we were horrified to hear that the Swedish furniture giant had implemented a drastic new policy to banish shoppers caught sleeping on its furniture displays last week, it seems that the local media reports were misinformed and the napping can go on.
A spokesperson for Ikea in China allayed fears about the alleged crackdown, promising the store would not be evicting drowsy shoppers who used the exhibits to catch some shut eye: “I would like to emphasize here, there is no new rule to ban customers sleeping on IKEA products in IKEA stores.”
The statement will come as a relief to many Chinese, who need not worry about finding a new sanctuary for their slumbers, and can continue to indulge their lounging ways to their hearts’ content.
Viva la siesta!
