In an attempt to “burn” his cancer away, a man in Yunlong county, Yunnan Province has been found “baking” himself on a self-made wooden grill.
According to CCTV News, the 25-year-old man who goes by the name Jia Binjui was diagnosed with leukemia in 2013.
Having spent all his savings over the past two years searching for medical treatments, Jia felt he was left with no other choice than to treat himself.
According to the report, the helpless man set up an “operating table” near his home, which consisted of a wooden “grill” and a fire that he builds underneath. He then proceeds to rest on the grill and “bake” himself for half an hour at a high temperature.
He said he will continue the treatment for several days, before going to the doctors to check if his homemade therapy is helping to kill any cancer cells.
There has been a mixed response to his desperation over social media.
One web user, identified as sheyingshimoyi, suggested that it shows the inefficiency of the local government in Yunnan, writing: “Very sad. There are many poor villages in Yunnan. Can people use the money from corrupted officials to subsidize these people?”
Several touching stories have emerged in the past year showing the ways families have attempted to deal with the unaffordable costs of cancer treatment in the country.
We’re not sure if this sort of Traditional Chinese Medicine will catch on, but let’s hope his story will at least raise concern.
