Two workers were killed after the cables lifting their work platform suddenly broke at a construction site in the Fengxian district on Saturday.
The pair were installing equipment on the exterior wall of a new building owned by the Shanghai Guanwei Co. Ltd. when the cables holding the cradle they were on snapped, sending them plummeting to the ground.
The construction site was located at 7128 Daye Highway in Jinhui Town, Shanghai Daily reports. Two nearby workers were injured.
Safety concerns over the city’s elevated workers were raised earlier this month when footage showing a window cleaner’s platform flying through the air and crashing into a window on the 91st floor of the Shanghai World Financial Center building went viral online.
