A Chongqing man was put behind bars after he decided to rob a house then peddle 300 items of stolen clothing the next morning in a far-too-convenient spot: the gate of the victim’s compound. D’oh.
With the unbeatable price of 20 yuan for dresses originally labelled 100 yuan, the burglar attracted large crowds of passersby on the morning of April 21 when he set up his impromptu shop outside, China News reports. One of them, unfortunately, happened to be the original owner of the clothes, a local boutique owner identified as Li.
Li was on her way to the local police station to report losing 6,000 RMB worth of brand-new clothing items, which had vanished from her sitting room. Upon seeing the hawker, Li crept aside to call the police.
The man eventually admitted to committing the theft when the cops interrogated him about the source of the clothing and the tags on them. Li was confirmed on April 23 to have been kept in custody facing burglary charges.
Li is not the first dumb trespasser in China. A Beijing burglar was put in the clink after flushing the toilet at the home he was robbing, waking up the home owners.
