To celebrate Earth Day on April 22, eight models posed for a photo shoot in the sprawling paddy fields of Loudi, Hunan dressed in the number one go-to beach accessory for women aged 45 and above in China.
The face-kini took the fashion world by storm after middle-aged women stepped out on the beaches of Qingdao back in 2013 donning the ski mask-like garments. The clothing article was a necessity for beach-goers keen on avoiding the sun’s damaging rays as well as the problematic swaths of green algae blooming on the water’s surface at the time.
Observers scoffed but silently coveted the face-kini, a bold statement piece that leaves essentially all to the imagination while still exuding confidence. It didn’t take long for the style to make its transition to the pages of renowned French fashion magazines.
What does the face-kini have to do with Earth Day? Apparently the point was to emphasize the “curves of the human body” against the “natural beauty of the terraced fields”.
Just go with it.
