Photos of an elderly lady from Jilin showing off her pole dancing skills has drawn the gaze of Chinese netizens, with many debating the suitability of the hobby.
According to Tencent, Jiang Zhijun, 65 years old, became interested in pole dancing under the influence of her daughter, who herself is a pole dancing instructor.
Jiang began to take up the art two years ago. After months of intense practice, she is now able to perform some very advanced moves. Jiang says that she plans on continuing to learn pole dancing and finds that the hobby brings her both health and happiness.
Despite being the city’s oldest pole dancer, she reportedly won a gold medal in the senior age category at a national pole dance competition held in Beijing last October. This past month, Jiang and her daughter won a CCTV talent competition after showcasing their pole dancing skills.
At present the top comment on Tencent, with over 7,300 likes, reads: “Old people can do what they like, amuse themselves how they see fit, but don’t go on television or appear in the media, ok? It’s just too disgusting.”
